Tropical Getaway Fundraiser
Tropical Getaway Fundraiser
As we move into February and winter is at its bleakest, we oftentimes want to get away. But for many reason it's tough to do so. Going to the beach in the summer is great, but going to the beach in the winter would be a much more welcome getaway. You can use this to your advantage in raising money for your organization. A tropical-themed night can draw plenty of people in the dead of winter.
Here's what you'll need to get going with your winter getaway.
A Gathering Place
While the real thing is preferable, flying everyone down to the Caribbean just isn't feasible. The local VFW hall or community center will have to do. Give them a call to see what nights the hall is available.
Proper Attire
A tropical night just doesn't have the same pizzaz if people show up in sweaters and business suits. It's a night for flip flops, shorts, and Hawaiian shirts. It might be advisable to set a place aside where people can change, if necessary. There need be one rule: no long sleeves.
Island Music
To set the mood, you'll have to crank up the music. A playlist full of island tunes and reggae will get everyone in the tropical mindset. Just kick back and enjoy the relaxing tones of the steel drum and ukelele.
Bright, Colorful Drinks
If you're serving cocktails at your event, make sure to have plenty of sweet mixers around so you can create tropical drinks. Nothing quite says winter getaway like a pink drink with an umbrella. This can go for both cocktails and fruit juices for the children in attendance.
Leis
Your theme doesn't necessarily have to be Hawaiian, but leis go well with any tropical themed party. They're cheap, too, and everyone loves to wear them while they're roaming around the beach. This might be a fake beach, but the effect is the same.
Dancing and Entertainment
If you're going to host a tropical party, you might as well go all the way and include conga lines, hula dancing, and other fun events that everyone can participate in. Conga lines especially get people in the mood. The more people participate, the more they'll enjoy their evening away from old man winter.
Tropical Dishes
People would probably be satisfied with grilled hamburgers, but why not go above and beyond? Adding tropical elements, such as pineapple and fish, to your meals can help create a more convincing atmosphere.
Bonus: Crank Up The Heat
If you want to really give your event a tropical feel, crank up the heat. That will get everyone in the tropical mindset.
